Piggy Bank
Ella Mizera
. Hi, I'm Ella, and this is my piggy bank. You'll notice that it says “My Marilyn's Lakeside Money”on it, except, you also notice that “Marilyn’s" and “Money” are written on very nicely, but they're written on in Sharpie, while “My Lakeside” was what it originally said, because these are carved in. He doesn't have any money in him. Oh, there's the, there's the barcode that I didn't manage to scrape off entirely. The story behind this guy is - so when I was little, I - me and my family used to go down to this lakeside village called Lakeside in Ohio, right on Lake Erie and the highlight of my day, we would rent a cottage there for like a week, but the highlight of my day was going on my rented bike down to a little store called Marilyn's. It was kind of the general store. It has a lot of things like, like a little souvenir shop too. Also beach accessories. A lot of Christmas ornaments in the summer. I had a feeling that was kind of a year round thing. Like a little tree where you could have the key change that you could find your names on. I, I don't think I have a name key chain from Lakeside, but it's quite possible that I did because every day of the week I would go down there and with my allowance or whatever pocket change I had, I would, you know, search for like the perfect souvenir. Had to do that every day. That was the most exciting part. And one of, one of the souvenirs was this. Of course, when I was younger, I don't think I realized that “Marilyn’s" and “Money” were written on. I, I think I was just like, “Oh, wow. This is a piggy bank for exactly what I'm gonna do. For the rest of the year, I'm gonna save up my pocket change, and then when we go to Lakeside for the week, I will take out all my change and I'll spend it at Marilyn’s." And I did that for a couple of years. I actually did do that. And he, he was about the perfect size for the amount of change that I was actually saving, but it did make me feel very, very important. Like I was saving up for something that was my first savings account, I guess. Now I have a bigger piggy bank, of course.
